Meiringen & the Haslital On foot

On foot

Walks from the door

Some of the valley's best walks begin within minutes of the flat — a limestone gorge, riverside paths, and trails that climb from the valley floor to alpine ridgelines, with the Reichenbach Falls a short drive on.

Right from the flat

The Aare Gorge is the one to do on foot: about 1.4 kilometres of near-level walkway through a limestone ravine, roughly 20 minutes' walk from the flat — allow around an hour to wander through and back. The Reichenbach Falls are a short drive on (about ten minutes by car), where you can climb beside the water or ride the historic funicular.

Into the mountains

Take the gondola up to Hasliberg and the ridge walks open up — gentle panoramic paths around Bidmi and the Mägisalp, or longer routes toward the Planplatte with the whole Bernese Oberland laid out below. Trails range from short family loops to full mountain days.

Lakeside & easy days

For a change of pace, a short train or bus hop reaches the Brienzersee for lakeside walks and the Ballenberg open-air museum. Closer to home, level paths follow the Aare and the Alpbach through and around the village.

Good to know

Are there easy walks near Meiringen for families?

Yes — the Aare Gorge walkway and the paths along the Aare and Alpbach are near-level and family-friendly, and the Reichenbach Falls can be done with the funicular to save the climb.

Can I do high-mountain walks without a long climb?

Yes — the Meiringen–Hasliberg gondola lifts you to the ridges, where gentle panoramic trails around Bidmi and the Mägisalp start almost at the top station.
